Wilson’s loss is New York’s gain. Kramer Sneed, who just finished his junior season at Barton College and had been a member of the summer collegiate Wilson Tobs starting rotation, is headed for New York after signing with the world champion New York Yankees on Tuesday evening. Sneed was taken in the 32nd round in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. “It’s feels really good,” Sneed said by telephone Tuesday night while signing autographs at the Tobs game in Fleming Stadium. “I’m pretty exciting that we finally got the paperwork done, and I’m excited about taking off for Staten Island on Thursday.” Sneed said he will […]

Homecoming 2009 Welcomed A Record Crowd!

The 2009 Homecoming Weekend welcomed a record 700 alumni to campus for a weekend of programs, sporting events, and activities. This is the largest Homecoming attendance in the history of the College, rivaling the College’s Centennial Celebration in 2002 with an attendance record of 750. Homecoming 2009 proved to be a weekend of celebrations that included new Barton College Athletic Hall of Famers: Allen Searson (1975), Will Flowers (1976), Teasha Murphy (1996) and Todd Bailess (1999), as well as the 2009 alumni award winners: Alumnus of the Year A.J. PARKTON, N.C. – A brief rain shower greeted Barton College’s 2009 freshman class as they arrived for Bulldog Day at Camp Rockfish on Saturday, Aug. 22.  The rain soon disappeared, however; and Barton’s newest Bulldogs, their peer leaders, and First-Year Seminar advisers took full advantage of the camp’s amenities. With the first of two sessions beginning June 23, Summer Orientation will prepare you for the start of your academic career as a Bulldog. Session I takes place June 23-24, and Session II closes out the week on June 26-27. Although they take place on different dates, both sessions are identical in structure. Barton Men Exit Regional Semifinals 77-61

AUGUSTA, GA – With a big sheriff patrolling the paint for Augusta State, the Barton College Bulldogs fired blanks all too often Sunday night and saw their season end with a 77-61 loss to the nationally fourth-ranked Jaguars in the NCAA D-II Men’s Basketball Southeast Regional semifinals in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The ice-cold Bulldogs, seeded fifth, had no answer for 7-foot, 300-pound ASU center Garret Siler, mainly because they couldn’t buy a basket. Barton hit just 22-of-67 shots for 32.8 percent, including 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point range, and again struggled from the foul line, where it converted 13-of-23 for 56.5 percent. WILSON, N.C. – Barton’s Bulldogs cruised past Mount Olive Feb. 26 in both the men’s and women’s regular-season championship basketball games as a near sellout “Dog House” crowd and special guests from the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters looked on. The Lady Bulldogs beat Mount Olive 75-49 to move to 18-4 in league play and 21-5 overall, and the Barton men topped Mount Olive 81-67 to become 17-3 in league play and 21-6 overall.
