WILSON, N.C. — The sun shone brightly on the Barton College community as they celebrated Commencement on Sunday, May 22. (Commencement Photo Album) Some 235 seniors participated in the 109th annual commencement exercises. Dr. Norval C. Kneten presided over his eighth commencement program as president of Barton College. Dr. Terrence L. Grimes, vice president for academic affairs, presented the graduating class. Daniel J. Gerlach, president of the Golden LEAF Foundation, delivered the commencement address. Gerlach, president of the Golden LEAF Foundation, will be the featured speaker at the 109th annual commencement exercises of Barton College scheduled for Sunday, May 22, on center campus at 1:30 p.m. Wilson Gymnasium is the rain site. Author Steve Berry to Begin National Book Tour at Barton College

WILSON, N.C. — Barton College and the Friends of Hackney Library are pleased to welcome bestselling author Steve Berry to campus for his first stop on a national book tour to promote “The Jefferson Key” (published by Ballantine Books, May 2011), the latest novel in his series of thrillers featuring protagonist Cotton Malone. Berry will kick off his tour on Wednesday, May 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a book signing and reception on the first floor of Hackney Library. Sigma Beta Delta Inducts 25 Charter Members on Barton College Campus

WILSON, N.C. — Barton College’s newly established Sigma Beta Delta, International Honor Society in Business, Management, and Administration, recently held its inaugural induction ceremony. Conducting the ceremony for charter members of the Barton College chapter was Dr. James H. Bearden, former dean of the School of Business at East Carolina University and currently the university’s director of the BB&T Center for Leadership Development.  Dr. Bearden is the founding president of Sigma Beta Delta.  Also assisting with the induction service was Dr. John Burbridge, professor of operations and supply chain management and former dean of the Martha and Spenser Love School of Business at Elon University. Barton College Gospel Choir Featured on WRAL’s Spiritual Awakening Gospel Music Program – May 8

WILSON, N.C. — The success of Barton’s students is celebrated through stories, testimonials, and now, even song. The Barton College Gospel Choir will be featured on WRAL-TV’s Spiritual Awakening gospel music program on Sunday morning, May 8, at 6 a.m., and during an encore performance on WRAL’s sister station, WRAZ Fox 50, at 8 a.m. The Barton College Gospel Choir is under the leadership of Holly Zacharias, advisor, and Barton alumnus Terrence Canady, choir director.  TJ Jones is the director of the gospel choir band.
