Wilson, N.C. —The eighth annual Caregiver Education Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, on the Barton College campus. The Gerontology Program of Barton College, Alzheimers North Carolina Inc., the Upper Coastal Plain Area Agency on Aging Family Caregiver Support Program, and Joseph D. Russell, M.D., have teamed up to sponsor this significant series of workshops and keynote addresses. WILSON, N.C. — The 2011 E.G. Purcell, Jr., Bible Conference and the Thedford G. and Woodrow W. Sprinkle Lectures are scheduled for March 6-8 at Barton College. Dr. Loren T. “Contemporary Drawings” Exhibition Opens in the Barton Art Galleries on February 27

WILSON, N.C. — The Barton Art Galleries is pleased to announce the opening of the “Contemporary Drawings” exhibition from the collection of Allen G. Thomas, Jr., on Sunday, Feb. 27, with a public reception from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. The exhibition, featuring Paolo Arao, Justin Francavilla, Anthony Goicolea, Zachari Logan, Rob Matthews, Chloe Piene, and Michael Whittle will run through March 31. Barton Students Provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Wilson, N.C. — Accounting students in the School of Business at Barton College will be spending some evenings in the near future to provide income tax assistance and Federal and State tax return preparation for members of the Wilson area community. This tax assistance program will be held on Tuesdays, Feb. 22, March 1, March 8, and March 22 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. each evening.  These tax preparation and e-file services are FREE OF CHARGE. Barton Welcomes Joanna Catherine Scott for Victor R. Small Writers Series on Feb. 22

Wilson, N.C. — Barton College will welcome novelist and poet Joanna Catherine Scott for the upcoming Victor R. Small Writers Series this spring semester. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m., and will be held in The Sam and Marjorie Ragan Writing Center on campus. This event is open to the public at no charge, and the community is invited to attend. Barton College and Belk of Wilson Partner In Raising Awareness for Heart Health

WILSON, N.C. — Educating customers about healthy hearts was the focus of a Heart Health Awareness Day at Belk of Wilson on Saturday, and partnering with Belk for the wellness education event were the Barton College School of Nursing and the Barton College Association of Nursing Students (BCANS). From noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Barton nursing students Nancy Thompson, Ashley Murray, and Amy King were on hand at Belk to provide free blood pressure screenings. In addition to sharing information about cardiovascular disease and stroke, the nursing students discussed the risk factors of smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol, and their damaging effects on the heart.
